News Success! At the beginning of March, the Tolkien landmark Statue was approved by the Planning committee of Birmingham City Council with a couple of conditions based on seeing an example of the ‘leaf surface' and landscaping. The final statue has been revised again – there are no ‘children' or hobbits but instead there'll be a story board with 3 parts: the centre piece outlining JRR Tolkien's links with Moseley, Treebeard and Lord of the Rings; the left one links to Sarehole Mill and Moseley Bog, two important sources of his imagination as he grew up in Moseley, and the Two Towers in Edgbaston. Now YOU have a chance to be identified for ever with an iconic Tolkien Statue, a unique opportunity that is probably the only such one in the world. How to get a leaf ... You'll have 2 ways: You can buy a leaf from Marcus Galleries in Moseley, check the buy a leaf page for more info. Buy a large bronze leaf without the hassle of having to compete with others – and have a more prominent leaf with much room for your names, organisation and logo etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Contacts Further details can be obtained from Marcus Galleries in Moseley, Mon - Sat, 10-6. +44 (0)121 442 0620. Or write to: David Isgrove, 45 Trafalgar Road, Moseley, Birmingham, B13 8BJ. The Moseley Statue Group The Moseley Statue Group is a community group made up of Moseley residents who are offering the gift of the statue to the people of Moseley. There has been talk for years and a lot of money spent on consultation that has not resulted in any progress. Thus there is now a group that can make it happen if there is public support for the proposal. The key people are: David Isgrove, Mark Guest, Alistair Duncombe and Stephanie Silk Further pages will shortly be added showing: A 'Project Summary' which can be downloaded and used in any press or publication release.
